You may think that scientist’s predictions are always right but usually they are not perfect. Yesterday on our way up the mountain we hypothesized that cold air would keep in more humidity, when in reality when we tested it the results were actually the opposite. Today we crafted our research question for the sky school symposium: do pine trees with close neighbors have reduced growth? We tested this by boring into eleven ponderosa pine trees and examined the trees rings. Tree ring widths represent the growth rate of trees in a year. The average tree rings width is about 0.2 to 0.4 millimeters apart within the last ten years. So far the data is making us rethink our hypothesis.
