9:30 Meet at Babad Do’Ag. Introductions and form small groups.

9:45 Small group investigation

  • Take initial set of data points for student-led investigation of Sky Island life zones
  • Sense of Place activity, such as 3 panel time drawing of the Tucson basin to focus on geologic history
  • Teambuilding activity

10:35 Departure

10:45 Arrive at Molino Basin for small group investigation

  • Take second set of data points for student-led investigation of Sky Island life zones
  • Sense of Place activity, such as a color scavenger hunt to bring awareness to diversity of plant life
  • Teambuilding activity

11:30 Departure

11:45 Arrive at Middle Bear for lunch

12:15 Dendrochronology lesson, large group

1:00 Small group investigation

  • Take third set of data points for student-led investigation of Sky Island life zones
  • Sense of Place activity, such as sound map to engage the senses
  • Teambuilding activity

1:45 Depart

2:00 Arrive at Windy Point

2:10 Hoodoos! Large group discussion & exploration

2:40 Small group investigation & exploration of area

  • Take fourth set of data points for student-led investigation of Sky Island life zones
  • Sense of Place activity, such as a paired drawing
  • Team building activity

3:30 Departure

4:00 Arrive at MLSC, rules and check into dorms

4:30 Mandatory rest in dorms

5:30 Sunset viewing

6:00 Dinner

6:30 Scale of the universe presentation

7:00 Evening astronomy rotation--telescope observing and other astronomy activity

8:45 Evening wrap-up

DAY 2

8:00 Breakfast

8:30 Game camera and other videos

9:00 Pack lunches to take in the field

9:30 Hike the Meadow Loop trail, including student values statement, scientific observations,10 minutes of silence activity, predator-prey game, data analysis, snack and lunch

12:30 Return to SkyCenter for rest

1:15 Field module rotations in small groups (topics developed with teacher input)

4:45 Mandatory rest in dorms

5:30 Dinner

6:00 Student presentations of life zone investigations

7:00 Evening astronomy rotation--telescope observing and other astronomy activity

8:45 Evening wrap-up
