Note: Each program will have a unique and flexible schedule. This template is a starting point to making each program fit the participants.

9:30 Meet at Babad Do’Ag. Introductions and form small groups.

  • Students: are waiting in the vehicles or on the sidewalk for instructions.
  • Teachers and chaperones: are meeting with Sky School staff and providing required paperwork, setting expectation of school's code of conduct for students, dividing students into groups of four, and choosing a group to accompany.
  • Sky School staff: are receiving and checking required paperwork, meeting with teachers and chaperones, then with whole group to introduce themselves and give instructions for dividing students into groups of four.

9:45 Take initial set of data points for introductory activity

  • Sky School staff: are passing out field journals, leading discussion of the differences between Tucson and Sky Island, and asking for hypotheses about the reasons for those differences, directing students on how to take measurements with instruments and record them.
  • Students: are participating in this discussion, writing hypotheses, taking measurements, recording data, making observations.
  • Teachers and chaperones: are engaged with small groups, supporting Sky School staff, and assisting students as needed with measurements.

10:45 Arrive at Windy Point for second set of data points

  • Sky School staff: are assisting students in taking another set of measurements, and facilitating discussion about the unique geology and their observations of changes already visible in the environment halfway up Mt. Lemmon.
  • Students: are participating in this discussion, taking measurements, recording data, making observations.
  • Teachers and chaperones: are engaged with small groups, supporting Sky School staff, and assisting students as needed with measurements.

12:00 Lunch at SkyCenter campus

  • Students: are eating and cleaning up
  • Teachers and chaperones: are eating and primarily responsible for organizing students and monitoring bathroom breaks during this down time to give Sky School staff time to prepare for the next activities
  • Sky School staff: are eating and preparing for next activities

12:30 Take third set of data points as a large group

  • Sky School staff: are assisting students in taking another set of measurements, and facilitating discussion about the landscape and geologic history of the region, and the biological differences at the summit of Mt. Lemmon.
  • Students: are participating in this discussion, taking measurements, recording data, making observations.
  • Teachers and chaperones: are engaged with the discussion, supporting Sky School staff, and assisting students as needed with measurements.

1:00 Small group rotations

  • Sky School staff: are leading interactive activities of 15 minutes for groups of students spread around the SkyCenter campus.
  • Students: are engaged and participating in the activities.
  • Teachers and chaperones: are circulating with small groups, engaged and supporting Sky School staff and assisting students as needed.

2:00 Hike the Meadow Loop trail, including 10 mins silence activity

  • Students: are hiking and participating in interpretive activities
  • Teachers and chaperones: are divided up either hiking (helping to enforce 10 minutes silence)
  • Sky School staff: are leading hikes in small groups, making stops to interpret environment in different locations, or are cleaning MLSC facilities

3:30 Closing circle

  • Students: are sharing what they learned and enjoyed
  • Teachers and chaperones: are sharing what they learned and enjoyed
  • Sky School staff: are sharing what they learned and enjoyed

4:00 Depart

  • Students: are checking they have everything with them, and loading vehicles.
  • Teachers and chaperones: are checking they have everything and everyone with them, have given Sky School staff all required paperwork, and loading vehicles.
  • Sky School staff: are checking nothing and no one is left behind, opening gates for vehicles to leave.
