In a world with unlimited wants and limited resources, individuals have to choose what's most important to them. While humans can barter or pay for resources, animals don't; instead, they compete. When these competitions are physical fights, the winner is usually the bigger animal. But, it's impossible to control if you'll get super big. I study if there are behaviors that an animal can do that'll make it more successful in a fight, using a local ant species (Temnothorax rugatulus). These behaviors include increased aggression or getting extra practice fighting when they're young!
